Pediatric Psychopharmacology Initiative (PPI)

The mission of the AACAP Pediatric Psychopharmacology Initiative (PPI) is to further research in the field of pediatric psychopharmacology by identifying areas of clinical need and promoting the highest scientific standards in the conduct of pediatric psychopharmacological research. The PPI is comprised of representatives from parent advocacy organizations, governmental agencies, professional organizations and researchers.

The PPI functions as an arm of AACAP and its Work Group on Research to monitor new developments in the field of pediatric psychopharmacology and to implement recommendations generated from the Research Forum on issues involving:

  • Clinical trial standards and methods for establishing long term effectiveness;
  • Safety and patient oriented outcomes; and
  • Strategies for working with families of children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders.

The mission of the PPI is accomplished through conferences, meetings, dissemination of information, consensus generation and research.
