Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – A Call to Action and Reflection
WASHINGTON, January, 17 2025 -- On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we pause to honor the extraordinary legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose vision for justice, equality, and compassion continues to inspire us. As Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" This question resonates deeply with the mission of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP).
Dr. King's message of hope and his dedication to social justice align with AACAP’s unwavering commitment to advancing mental health equity for all children and families. His belief in the power of community, inclusion, and opportunity underscores our work to address the mental health needs of children from all backgrounds, particularly those from underserved and marginalized communities.
In honor of Dr. King's legacy, AACAP’s office will be closed on Monday. This day serves as both a time for reflection and a call to action, inspiring us to continue building a child and adolescent psychiatry community that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
By observing this holiday, we recommit to creating an inclusive environment where every child and family has the opportunity to thrive, and where mental health support is accessible to all. Today and every day, let us carry forward Dr. King’s vision of a better, more equitable world.
