Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for a Post Pediatric Portal Program (PPPP)?
Board-certified practicing pediatricians and pediatric residents in their second or third year of training are eligible to apply.

What are the requirements to apply to a Post Pediatric Portal Program?
Applicants must have graduated from an ACGME-accredited pediatrics residency program.

Do Post Pediatric Portal Programs participate in the Match?
No. These programs do not participate in the Match. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.

How competitive are admissions to Post Pediatric Portal Programs?
Admission is increasingly competitive. Each year, only 8–10 total positions are available across all participating institutions. Growing awareness and demand have contributed to heightened competition.

What does training in a Post Pediatric Portal Program involve?
Training consists of 18 months in General Psychiatry and 18 months in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Upon successful completion of the PPPP, graduates become board eligible in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Are Post Pediatric Portal Programs ACGME-accredited?
Both the General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry portions of the program are ACGME-accredited. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology oversees that trainees meet all necessary requirements to become board-eligible in both specialties.
