Post Pediatric Portal Programs

The concept of Post Pediatric Portal Programs (PPPPs) emerged from the recognition that pediatricians often manage mental health concerns in their patients but may lack the specialized training to address them comprehensively. To bridge this gap, leaders in medical education developed an efficient training model that allows pediatricians to enter child and adolescent psychiatry without repeating years of prior training.

The Post Pediatric Portal Program is a three-year, combined training program in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, formally approved and overseen by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The program provides pediatric-trained physicians with an opportunity to deepen their expertise in mental health by training in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Eligible applicants must have completed a core pediatrics residency accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Candidates may pursue the program directly after residency or later in their careers as a shift in professional focus.

Each participating program offers a unique curriculum and training structure while meeting the core requirements for board certification in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact individual programs for more specific information and details.
