AACAP Statement on President’s Executive Order - "Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping”

September 25, 2020

Washington, DC, September 25, 2020 – The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has very grave concerns about the effect of President Trump’s Executive Order of September 22, 2020, “Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping.” We ask that it be withdrawn as contrary to freedom of speech and good faith efforts to increase racial and gender difference understanding, acceptance, and equality. These are very important issues for AACAP members, the children and adolescents we serve, and America. If fully implemented, the Executive Order would have a chilling effect on the work of our members and organization.
