AACAP Stands in Solidarity with the Family of Mr. George Floyd

WASHINGTON, DC, April 21, 2021 -- In the wake of Tuesday’s verdict our member community stands in solidarity with the family of Mr. George Floyd. While not a cause for celebration, the verdict shows that change – meaningful and important change – is possible. Our thoughts are with George Floyd’s family. May they find peace and solace in Tuesday’s verdict.

As President Biden said, “Systematic racism is a stain on our nation’s soil.” We believe this, as well, and as an organization dedicated to the health and well-being of children and families everywhere, we are committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and health equity at every turn.

This is a crucible moment for our country, and there is still so much work to do. We must consider how this watershed event can be a catalyst for critical conversations and change. We remain vigilant in creating shared solutions for confronting racism and advancing justice so that we can build a world together that is safe for all no matter the color of your skin.

We recognize the impact that systemic racism has on everyone—especially children and people of color—and the trauma and pain caused by racism and violence. We are committed to helping children and families understand, learn, and act because of these significant events.
