AACAP Reaffirms Commitment to Evidence-Based Care and the Physician-Patient Relationship

In response to increasing federal scrutiny and advocacy surrounding certain areas of medical care, AACAP reaffirms its longstanding commitment to evidence-based science and to the clinical expertise that guides the care of children and adolescents.

Children deserve mental health care anchored in science and delivered by trained physicians. As the leading physician authority on children’s mental health, AACAP remains firmly committed to advancing evidence-based care across diverse clinical settings and supporting the needs of children, adolescents, and their families.

We also reaffirm the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship and the essential role it plays in delivering individualized care. Decisions about a child’s mental health treatment must be grounded in clinical expertise and a thorough evaluation of the needs of the child and family.

AACAP’s policies and clinical guidance reflect the collective expertise of child and adolescent psychiatrists and are informed by the best available scientific evidence, particularly in complex and sensitive areas of care.
