Statement from AACAP Government Affairs about SAMHSA Grant Terminations

After hearing from many concerned members regarding the administration's recent decision to immediately terminate a slate of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants, AACAP's Government Affairs team contacted Members of Congress to warn of the serious harm these cuts could pose to children, adolescents, and the providers who care for them.

As a result of these and other advocacy efforts from the broader medical community and public, the administration announced on Wednesday night that it was reversing course and restoring the affected SAMHSA grant funding.

AACAP thanks its members for their ongoing dedication to child and adolescent mental health and for their engagement in advocating for strong, sustainable mental health services. The Association encourages members to continue sharing insights from their clinical practice and communities, which help align federal policies and programs with on-the-ground realities.

AACAP will continue to closely monitor this situation and work to protect those federal investments that ensure children and adolescents have access to high-quality, evidence-based mental health care.
