AACAP Honors Juneteenth 2025
Washington, DC — AACAP honors Juneteenth as a moment to reflect on our shared history and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion and belonging. On June 19, 1865, nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, freedom reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas. We recognize Juneteenth as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of injustice and the continued responsibility to build a more just and equitable future.
AACAP remains committed to creating a professional community where every member feels valued, respected, and supported. We do this by improving access to care, supporting culturally informed training, and promoting leadership that reflects the communities we serve.
We strengthen our workforce by supporting mentorship and career development opportunities, with a focus on expanding representation. We value the contributions of other medical specialties and disciplines in advancing mental health and emotional well-being. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we work to reduce disparities and improve mental health outcomes for the children, adolescents, and families we serve.
As we observe Juneteenth 2025, we reflect on the progress made and the work that remains. We recommit to fostering a culture of belonging within AACAP and across the systems that shape child and adolescent mental health.
In recognition of Juneteenth, AACAP offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
