Mission of the AACAP

Promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families through research, training, prevention, comprehensive diagnosis and treatment and to meet the professional needs of child and adolescent psychiatrists throughout their careers. The Regional Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey supports this mission statement.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
The child and adolescent psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and the treatment of disorders of thinking, feeling and/or behavior affecting children, adolescents, and their families. A child and adolescent psychiatrist offers families the advantages of a medical education, the medical traditions of professional ethics, and medical responsibility for providing comprehensive care.

Criteria for Distinguished Fellow
Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Child Psychiatry, unless child psychiatry training was undertaken before 1953, five years experience in, and a major professional interest and activity in the field of child psychiatry since the completion of training. Certification in Osteopathic Association Board of Neurology and Psychiatry Board Certification in Child Psychiatry. Fellow Members are eligible for election to all offices, and have all voting privileges.

Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064. Guest Lecturer: John Walkup, MD, AACAP President, Chair, Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health; Margaret C. Osterman Board Designated Professor in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
