AACAP partners with our members in advocacy efforts at the federal and state levels to improve policies and services for children and adolescents with mental illness. We work to educate policymakers and administrators about issues affecting child and adolescent psychiatry and children's mental health and regularly engage our members on pertinent legislation and regulatory activities. AACAP's Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of child and adolescent psychiatrists in the world. Held in October each year, the Annual Meeting features the latest in research and clinical practice in the field with hundreds of programs given by top speakers. It's the "must attend" event for child and adolescent psychiatrists and promises something for everyone. The preliminary program is available starting June 15 and registration opens in August. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The Assembly, which meets twice per year, is composed of delegates from all member regional organizations. The number of delegates is based on the size of the regional organization's membership: one delegate for every 50 members. For more information, please click here.

Much of the work to increase the knowledge base of child and adolescent psychiatry and disseminate information about specific topics effecting children and families is generated through the work of volunteer committees and task forces. Donations to AACAP help make possible programs that are outside of AACAP's operating budget. Our programs address a variety of areas including advocacy, consumer education, increasing access to mental health treatments, research, and the workforce shortage. You can support AACAP's valuable programs by donating to one or more of our charitable funds.

AACAP bills members based on a calendar year from January to December. Members are invoiced for annual dues on 10/1 to encourage early renewal.
AACAP adopted a dual membership with regional organizations of child & adolescent psychiatry in 1990. Applicants conveniently apply to both organizations with the same membership application. Membership eligibility is reviewed by AACAP staff, the local regional organization, and the Membership Credentials Committee.
Regional organization dues are determined separately by the local regional council. Regional dues are included in the annual dues renewal invoice mailed by AACAP. Some regional organizations elect to bill members directly for local dues.

AACAP's Code of Ethics serves to guide the professional conduct of our members. The principles apply to the medical specialty of child and adolescent psychiatry and should be used by all practitioners of this specialty in very professional context. The Ethics Requirement FAQ Sheet assists members who have questions about fulfilling the membership requirement of one hour of ethics study every two years. For more information, please click here.

In the Positions Database, both members and non-members can post available positions, and search for available positions around the country. In the Vita Database, members can post their curriculum vita for employers to search. CVs are located in a protected, member's-only section of the AACAP web site. Only screened advertisers and recruiters have access.
