Building Bridges: Connecting Generations in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
WHO WE ARE
Life Members are seasoned child and adolescent psychiatrists, each possessing a wealth of experience and wisdom. Whether actively practicing or enjoying retirement, AACAP’s 1000+ Life Members bring unparalleled expertise to our AACAP community.
Qualifying for Life Membership requires a combined age and membership years total of 104, with a minimum age of 65 and continuous AACAP membership.
Drs. Marilyn B. Benoit and Ellen H. Sholevar lead AACAP’s Life Members Committee, which is committed to fostering engagement among Life Members and mentoring medical students and residents, ensuring the future of our field.
WHAT WE DO
Life Members are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of child and adolescent psychiatrists through:
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to medical students and residents.
- Programming: Share career insights and wisdom during our Annual Meeting programs.
- Community Building: Foster community and connection among Life Members.
- Fundraising: Contribute to exposing future psychiatrists to AACAP’s Annual Meeting.
MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
AACAP’s Life Members Committee prioritizes initiatives aimed at supporting and nurturing the upcoming generation of child and adolescent psychiatrists.
If you are a Life Member passionate about mentoring, sign up by May 15 to be a mentor during one of our three mentoring events in 2024.
PROGRAMMING
Participate in enriching Life Members Wisdom Clinical Perspectives, programs held at AACAP’s Annual Meeting featuring our most senior members reflecting on their illustrious careers in child and adolescent psychiatry.
FOSTERING COMMUNITY
- Life Members Luncheon: A memorable event for Life Members to enjoy the company of friends and colleagues while mentoring our young award winners as they embark on their careers in child and adolescent psychiatry. New this year: our annual social event will be on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 12:45 pm. More details to come.

GIVING BACK
Support our mission by contributing to the Life Members Fund. Your donation empowers medical students and resident psychiatrists to effectively treat mental disorders in children and adolescents. Since 2010, the Life Members Fund has sponsored over 299 individuals with Medical Student Mentorship Grants and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Travel awards to attend AACAP Annual Meetings.
