Regarding the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP’s) Recent Policy Statement on the Impact of Racism on Child and Adolescent Health

July 30, 2019

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) supports the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP’s) recent policy statement on the Impact of Racism on Child and Adolescent Health.

Racism causes widespread harm impacting all racial and ethnic groups. The greatest harm is felt by communities of color, children, and adolescents. Inequities in health care, education, poverty, and employment all have connections to racism.

AACAP stands firm in our commitment in promoting the healthy development of all children and in determining effective multidisciplinary strategies to better address the harmful effects of racism on children and adolescents. Additionally, we continue to support systematic improvements that impact delivery and access to health care.

Thank you to AACAP’s Diversity and Culture Committee for serving as a voice on this critical issue. Additionally, this dedicated team continues to add valuable information to the AACAP Cultural Diversity Resource Center here
