AACAP Clinical Practice Guideline

Instructions for AACAP Committees for the Development of AACAP Clinical Updates

Official AACAP documents that address the assessment and treatment (psychopharmacological and psychosocial) of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders, based on systematic literature searches.

Developed in accordance with standards of rigor and transparency promulgated by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), these documents are authored by the Committee on Quality Issues (CQI) based upon systematic searches and critical appraisals of the extant relevant literature provided by the US Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Published in JAACAP, upon Council approval.

AACAP Clinical Update

Author development instructions and approval process:

E.g., Instructions for AACAP Committees for the Development of AACAP Clinical Updates

Official AACAP series of documents intended to address: psychiatric assessment and management of specific populations; specific settings; and application of specific psychiatric techniques.

Informed by standards of rigor and transparency promulgated by IOM, these documents are authored by members of AACAP committees in collaboration with CQI.

E.g., Substance Abuse Resource Center FAQs

AACAP documents that answer common questions on a variety of topics and can be curated to fit a wide array of audiences including lawmakers, patients and families, and mental health professionals.

Statements summarizing AACAP’s official views on specific topics in children’s mental health.

Resources designed to give AACAP assistance to relevant populations addressing specific issues. These products can include tip sheets, videos, or more detailed documents that offer suggestions and considerations.

AACAP Resource Centers
(Consumer-Friendly)

E.g., Resource Centers and Integrated Care for Kids

AACAP Resource Centers empower consumers and clinicians through education. Specific AACAP Resource Centers contain consumer-friendly definitions, answers to frequently asked questions, clinical resources, expert videos, and abstracts from theJAACAP,Scientific ProceedingsandFacts for Familiesrelevant to each disorder. These resource centers are created and maintained by the Consumer Issues Committee (CIC).

Other Resource Centers, developed by committees and Task Forces, are primarily for AACAP members and other mental health professionals.

AACAP Toolkit

E.g., How to use the Psychodynamic Play Psychotherapy Train the Trainer Tool

Videos, and other helpful AACAP resources, as well as annotated bibliographies and lists of topical references.
