Applying to the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation Medical Student Fellowship Program
Application portal opens January 8, 2024 and closes on April 8, 2024.
REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS
The Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation (KTGF) is inviting medical schools, particularly those from geographic locations not currently represented in the program or that are under resourced in child and adolescent psychiatry services, to submit an application for consideration to join the KTGF Medical Student Fellowship Program. This Program exposes medical students to clinical experiences in child and adolescent psychiatry, children’s mental health research, advocacy, and mentorship, and encourages students to explore careers in child and adolescent psychiatry. The Foundation plans to award grants to two new programs.
OVERVIEW
Since 2002, the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation has awarded grants to medical schools to:
- Expose medical students to clinical experiences and mentorship in child and
adolescent psychiatry;
- Encourage long-term contribution to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry by supporting relevant, cutting-edge scientific research;
- Nurture the talents of medical students; and
- Encourage medical institutions to support young investigators in the critical
early stages of their careers.
The Foundation currently funds fourteen medical schools across the country to implement programs to expose medical students to clinical experiences and research mentorship in child and adolescent psychiatry. Each school has created a unique program to reach the Foundation’s goals while also providing discussion groups, exposure to research and clinical work, networking opportunities with leaders in the field, and participation in an annual national conference dedicated to sharing student experiences across sites.
ELIGIBILITY AND FUNDING LEVELS
The applicant who initiates the process must be a faculty member in the department of child and adolescent psychiatry at a medical school, who if selected would serve as Program Director for your institution’s Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation Medical Student Fellowship Program. The role of the KTGF Program Director includes:
- Annual individual Program evaluation virtual meetings;
- Annual submission of program rosters;
- Participation in a longitudinal analysis by submitting resident match data on program participants;
- Semi-annual Program Director meetings (at the KTGF National Medical Student Conference and the AACAP Annual Meeting).
Each program receives $5,000 in funding, paid in two disbursements of $2,500 over the course of five years. Programs receive additional travel funds to attend the annual KTGF National Medical Student Conference.
