AACAP Robert L. Stubblefield, MD Delegate to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Resident and Fellow Section

The award was established through a gift from Mrs. Alice Stubblefield in honor of her late husband, former AACAP President Robert L. Stubblefield, MD. It supports two AACAP members serving as Resident & Fellow Section (RFS) delegates to the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates (HOD) by funding transportation, hotel, and per diem expenses for both the Annual and Interim Meetings each year.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be either:
    • Enrolled in a child and adolescent psychiatry residency, integrated training, or fellowship program; or
    • Board-eligible in child and adolescent psychiatry;
  • Be an AACAP member; and
  • Be an AMA member.

Responsibilities

Awardees must:

  • Attend the Annual and Interim Meetings of the AMA House of Delegates;
  • Represent AACAP at the Annual and Interim Meetings and brief the Section Council on any assigned Reference Committees;
  • Participate in their state and specialty society caucuses that are convened during AMA HOD meetings and share any input on pending AACAP resolutions;
  • Attend assigned Reference Committees and testify on behalf of AACAP, as necessary;
  • Participate in Resident & Fellow Section meetings;
  • Testify in the AMA HOD on behalf of AACAP, as necessary;
  • Serve on Reference Committees, if invited; and
  • Run for leadership positions within the AMA HOD when appropriate.

Award Conditions

  • Award shall not exceed more than two consecutive years.
  • All program funds are contingent upon receipt of adequate funding from AACAP sponsors.
  • AACAP reserves the right to waive liabilities.
  • AACAP reserves the right to cancel the program if terms and conditions are not met.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted electronically to govaffairs@aacap.org no later than March 9, 2026, and must include the following:

  • A letter of intent of no more than three pages;
  • Curriculum vitae; and
  • A letter of support from either the chief of child and adolescent psychiatry or the chair of the department of psychiatry.

Current Cycle Note: At this time, AACAP is seeking to fill only one Stubblefield delegate slot. The awardee will commence service prior to the 2026 Annual Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates.
