Early Childhood Serv Inten Inst (ECSII) - Online Training
Developed by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), the Early Childhood Service Intensity Instrument (ECSII) is a tool used to determine the appropriate level of service intensity for infants, toddlers, and children from ages 0-5 and their families. It stresses support to service planning that is consistent with System of Care values and principles including the ability to provide intensive services in the home and community. The ECSII can be used in all community and facility-based treatment settings and by all child serving organizations including those in integrated care settings. The instrument links the clinical assessment of the child with standardized levels of severity across six “domains” including: Degree of Safety, Child-Caregiver relationships, Caregiving Environment, Functional/Developmental Status, Impact of the Child’s Condition, and a Services Profile Fit. This linkage is accomplished by identifying relevant anchor points to determine severity in each of the identified domains. The ECSII conveys information easily and provides a common language which can be used by a spectrum of service providers to best address a client and family’s individual needs. This multi-purpose tool is user-friendly and can measure outcomes during all aspects of treatment.
This online course consists of five e-learning modules leading to the development of skills necessary to compute ECSII composite scores, attribute service intensity levels, and create personalized service treatment plans.
By the end of this course learners will be able to:
• Understand the Systems of Care philosophy which serves as the foundation for the ECSII
• Explain why the ECSII is useful in determining appropriate supports and services
• Determine the correct anchor points for each ECSII domain and compute a composite score
• Describe service intensity levels for each ECSII domain
• Use the ECSII to create a service plan based on wraparound service plan concepts as well as any other team-based treatment planning processes
