ASD Update for the Clinician: From Diagnosis to Clinical Management
Child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals seeking up-to-date information on clinical diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) benefit from attending this Institute. Clinicians receive a practical review of current research in ASD and acquire information on the clinical diagnostic approach, the use of the genetic work-up for establishing the diagnosis, and current treatment perspectives. Specific attention is given to identification and management of frequently co-occurring psychiatric conditions, such as anxiety. Participants learn to design appropriate multi-modal individual treatment plans that encompass educational, behavioral, and psychopharmacological therapeutic interventions for ASD and co-occurring psychiatric conditions in children. Presentations also look at information and resources that can help parents facilitate treatment planning to improve functioning, integration, and management of the challenging behaviors associated with ASD.
