Improvement in Medical Practice (PIP) Tools
AACAP's Improvement in Medical Practice Tools
AACAP's Lifelong Learning Committee has developed a series of checklists and surveys to help fulfill the PIP component of your maintenance of certification requirements. Once complete be sure to add your completed PIP units to your ABPN Physician Folios account. (Please note, AACAP does not issue completion certificates for its Performance in Practice tools.)
Clinical Module Tools
Perform retrospective chart reviews of at least 5 patients using these ABPN-approved checklists based on the AACAP Practice Parameters for ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, Cultural Competency, Depression, Early Onset Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Patients Involved with the Child Welfare System, Schizophrenia, Tic Disorders, and the Use of Atypical Antipsychotics in Pediatric Patients. Using the results from these reviews, develop a plan to improve the effectiveness/efficiency of your clinical practice. Repeat this process again within two years using the same tool to see if improvements in practice have occurred.
Feedback Module Tools
Collect personal performance feedback from at least one of the following: five patient surveys*, five peer evaluations of general competencies*, five resident evaluations of general competencies**, 360 Degree evaluation of general competencies with five respondents**, institutional peer review of general competencies with five respondents**, or one supervisor evaluation of general competencies**. Using the data from these surveys/evaluations, develop a plan to improve the effectiveness/efficiency of your practice. Repeat this process again within two years using the same tool to see if improvements in practice have occurred.
*AACAP’s Feedback Module tools have been developed to help meet the patient survey and peer evaluation components of the requirement.
