Washington, D.C., May 1, 2013 - The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce U.S. Representative Joe Courtney (D- CT) as this year's recipient of the Friends of Children's Mental Health Award. The award was established in 2008 to honor those who have made significant contributions to support children with mental health needs, and child and adolescent psychiatry.

Congressman Courtney is recognized for his recent work with AACAP on pediatric subspecialty and pediatric mental health loan repayment. He is also a supporter of mental health parity, the mental health in schools act and a member of the Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus.

Representative Courtney accepts the Friends of Children's Mental Health Award at AACAP's 9th Annual Advocacy Day on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.
