Washington, D.C., September 19, 2012 - The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), is pleased to announce Steven Adelsheim, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Family/Community Medicine, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, as the recipient of AACAP's 2012 Sidney Berman Award for School-Based Study and Intervention for Learning Disorders and Mental Health.
The annual award recognizes excellence in the study or treatment of learning disorders and work in a school-setting and is administered by AACAP's Schools Committee. Albert Abramson, President of the Abramson Family Foundation, established The Berman Fund for the Study and Treatment of Learning Disabilities and Mental Illness to honor Dr. Sidney Berman for his dedication to child and adolescent psychiatry and research on learning disabilities. A founding member of AACAP, Dr. Berman was the President of AACAP from 1969-1971.
Dr. Adelsheim will present, "Early Intervention is Prevention: Emerging Models of Connection, Support, and Treatment through School Mental Health," at AACAP's 59th Annual Meeting on October 25, 2012, in San Francisco.
