Washington, D.C., May 8, 2012 - The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) as this year's recipient of the Friends of Children's Mental Health Award. The award was established in 2008 to honor those who have made significant contributions to society through support of child and adolescent psychiatry.
Senator Whitehouse is recognized for being a tireless advocate for improved access and services for children with mental illnesses. His continued commitment and support to ensure that free-standing children's psychiatric hospitals around the country receive funding from the Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education Program is heroic.
Senator Whitehouse accepts the Friends of Children's Mental Health Award at the AACAP Annual Advocacy Day on Thursday, May 10, 2012, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
