We are so appreciative of the generous gift that Dr. Hansen gave to AACAP in 2011, officially naming the Douglas B. Hansen, MD, Annual Update Course, a course for which he was the first chair in 1976. The Hansen course is a staple of AACAP’s educational programs and since his donation, has been a practical, clinically relevant update for over 2,500 physician learners. It was also our first fully online virtual course, significantly expanding our offerings, and preparing the organization for the many changes to our educational programs that occurred during the pandemic.
We also appreciate his other AACAP-related accomplishments: Dr. Hansen served as the first AACAP Assembly Chair and on the AACAP Executive Committee and Council. Over his career, Dr. Hansen has also served on local and national leadership positions in medicine, and he helped found the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute.
