AACAP has been made aware of a survey effort by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) within the Federal government’s department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It relates principally to key definitions, including core elements of “Serious Emotional Disturbance” (SED), whose incidence and prevalence are considered when reviewing State applications for Community Mental Health Services Block Grant awards. Click here to view the existing definition, finalized in 1993, as background information.
On behalf of its members, AACAP will continue to provide direct input and feedback to SAMHSA as it considers changes in this area. Meanwhile, all interested members are encouraged to access the survey and provide individual input as they deem most appropriate. Please note that AACAP will not have any direct access to your answers, nor are we sponsoring this survey.
SAMHSA’s online Information Exchange (survey) is now available for you to provide feedback on the definition for SED. This link will be available until April 18, 2014, 5:00PM EST.
