Travel Information for San Diego

Booking Travel to the Annual Meeting
AACAP recommends that travelers take advantage of substantial savings on airfare by booking flights using one of the following websites: www.orbitz.com, www.travelocity.com, and www.expedia.com.

Travel-On Travel Management Agency has been selected as the AACAP’s travel agency. Tickets will be mailed directly to you, and every ticketed passenger will receive $200,000 automatic flight insurance at no extra charge. Please note that each ticket purchased through Travel-On has a processing fee of $36. Travel-On will assist with your seating assignments and credit for frequent flyer programs. For airline reservations, simply call Travel-On at: 1.888.495.7770 or 240.387.4200 and please refer to Account #60. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, or fax your request to: 1.800.308.7819 or 240.387.4201. AACAP cannot guarantee that Travel-On will find you a better deal than you or your own travel agent might find.

Location
The city of San Diego lies in the southwest corner of California, 120 miles (193 km) south of the city of Los Angeles and 20 miles (32 km) north of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. With San Diego International Airport only 3 miles northwest of downtown San Diego and the electric Gaslamp Quarter, you can move from jet lagged to jet setting in one quick taxi trip.

Transportation
San Diego is approximately a 2 1/2-hour drive from downtown Los Angeles via freeway on route Interstate 5, which stretches from Canada to the Mexican border. Interstate 8 serves drivers from Yuma, Arizona, and beyond from the East Coast. Interstate 15 provides access from Riverside County, Nevada and the Inter-mountain West.

San Diego International Airport, Lindbergh Field near downtown is currently served by: Aeromexico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, America West, American Airlines, American Eagle, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian Airlines, Horizon Airlines, JetBlue, Mesa, Northwest, Skywest, Southwest, Sun Country, United and U.S. Airways. Landing fields throughout the county serve private aircraft.

Amtrak passenger trains provide service to and from Los Angeles. The Coaster provides commuter service from Oceanside to downtown San Diego. Greyhound provides bus service.

An excellent freeway system makes travel by car or bus easy throughout the county. San Diego's Metropolitan Transit Development Corporation buses serve the metro area, and the San Diego Trolley provides service from downtown to Old Town, Mission Valley and Qualcomm Stadium, and to the Mexican border at Tijuana. The trolley's East Line serves the San Diego Convention Center area and San Diego's East County. Taxi service, rental cars and tours are readily available.

Airline Discount
American Airlines is offering a special discount for all attendees of the AACAP 53rd Annual Meeting. Earn a 5% discount off of all applicable fares. Simply call (or have your travel agent call) 800.433.1790 and refer to Meeting Authorization Number A99H6AG. You can also use the discount online at www.aa.com for American Airlines/American Eagle flights only. Use the meeting authorization number as the discount code. AADVANTAGE members may accrue mileage on American Airlines for tickets purchased through this discount. You or your travel agent should call today, as seats may be limited.

Car Rental Discoung
Avis Car Rental is offering reduced rates for AACAP Annual Meeting attendees. The Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) Number is J995402. Please use this AWD number when calling Avis directly at 1.800.331.1600 to receive the best car rental rates available.

Parking at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina
Overnight parking at the Marriott is $18 for self parking and $24 for valet parking per day, including in and out privileges. Hourly parking is $4 per hour for self parking and $8 per hour for valet parking.

Taxi
The San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina is located 3 miles from the San Diego International Airport. A taxi ride from the airport to the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina will cost $10-$12 and will take approximately 15 minutes.

Airport Shuttle
Xpress Shuttle provides airport transportation to and from the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. The cost is $6/one way. Call 800-900-7433 in advance to make a reservation.

Climate
October's average high in San Diego is 75 F, average low 60 F. The average precipitation in October is 0.44 in.

Sales Tax
The sales tax rate for San Diego is 7.75%. The transient occupancy tax (10.5% in the City of San Diego) is a tax primarily used for the purpose of promoting San Diego and is levied on hotel and motel rooms.
