DevelopMentor
Research on the Cutting Edge

Peter Jensen, M.D., Co chair of the
Work Group on Research

This is a very exciting time for research in child and adolescent psychiatry. Technological advances have provided us with the necessary tools to begin to unravel the complex mechanisms that result in the development of psychopathology. This issue of the DevelopMentor is devoted to exploring the exciting work of a few of our members. The first article takes a look at how genetics is being used by Ed Cook, M.D., to understand the development of childhood onset neuropsychiatric disorders. Imaging is another tool that is widely being used, and the second article looks at how Michael De Bellis, M.D., is using imaging to examine the effects of early trauma on brain development. Finally, we have an article by John Sargent, M.D., who is developing new ways to improve the dissemination of research through advances made in telecommunications.

I hope that you enjoy this issue and that it encourages you to consider a career in child and adolescent psychiatry research.
