Instructions for Joining the AACAP Facebook Group
AACAP has created a “group” page, and anybody on Facebook with an interest in child and adolescent psychiatry can request to be a member of this group. Once you join the group, you can read information about AACAP, and join online discussions with the other group members.
This page explains:
1. How to join Facebook, and get started.
2. How to join the AACAP group, and what you can do on the AACAP group page.
1) Joining Facebook and Getting Started:
On the Facebook homepage (www.facebook.com), there is a box that allows you to sign up for Facebook. Filling out the box will begin the process of creating your own Facebook page – just follow the instructions! The page will ask you for information about yourself – you may fill in as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing.
Most people who are new to Facebook have the same question - who will be able to see my information? That is up to you. Once you’ve signed up for Facebook, you are always able to adjust your privacy settings, by clicking on the “Privacy Settings” link under the “Settings” tab at the top of each page. On the privacy settings page, you can adjust who can see your information (e.g. only people you invite), as well as privatize other settings. You can read more about Facebook privacy here.
Joining the AACAP group and using the AACAP group page:
Once you have signed up, you can look for people you know who are also on Facebook, or groups that you would like to join. Try searching for AACAP by typing it into the search bar that can be found at the top of every page on the Facebook website.
A link to the AACAP group page should appear – click on the link that says “Request to Join.” An AACAP staff person will receive an email allowing them to confirm your request. Once your request has been confirmed, you can explore the AACAP group page.
The AACAP Group Page has several sections:

Underneath the photos is a discussion board with lots of topics that you can read, respond to, or ask questions about. Just click a topic title to read what people have been saying. At the bottom of each discussion is a box where you can join the discussion by typing a response or question.
Web Links
This section has links to AACAP resources that may be of interest to students and residents. Click on one of the links to explore our online resources.
Members
In this section, you can see who else is in the group. If you see someone you’d like to talk to, you can click on their name and either send them a message or ask to become their “friend” (Facebook friends can view each other’s personal Facebook pages).
Wall
The “wall” is a public message board where miscellaneous messages can be posted for everyone to see. If you have a message that doesn’t warrant an entire discussion, post it here by typing in the text box that appears at the top of the “wall.”
