Workshop W: Intensive In-Home Child and Psychiatric Service (IICAPS): A Promising Practice Available for Broad Dissemination

Friday, October 26
8:00 – 11:00 a.m. (ticket)
Joseph L. Woolston, M.D., Robert Plant, Ph.D., Mark Schaefer, Ph.D.

This Workshop describes IICAPS, an Intensive, In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service with demonstrated effectiveness and provides tools and guidance for its dissemination in venues outside of Connecticut. The service delivery systems that were expected to meet the needs of children with serious psychiatric disturbances have been inadequate to address the complex interactions between the child, his family, and his environment that perpetuate that child’s distress. Costly and often ineffective remedies have placed burdens on both service providers and the state systems that fund them. IICAPS offers the possibility of effective clinical intervention and fiscal prudence. Attendees gain knowledge of IICAPS and the multiple partnerships and systems changes that are necessary to support its replication.
