8:00 – 11:00 a.m. (ticket)
Klaus Minde, M.D.
The Workshop begins with a brief introduction of the underlying principles of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Participants are introduced to the current thinking on behavioral regulation and presented with the philosophy and the material used to assess and change the anxious representations of young patients. This involves a summary of the treatment and outcome of 50 consecutively seen anxious children aged 3-6 years and the use of medication is discussed. A discussion of the “special needs” of children with selective mutism and those whose anxiety is secondary to developmental or learning problems takes place. The specific challenges that the presenters’ clinical programs face, the resistance that some parents show towards medication, and management of these challenges is addressed.
