Ethical Issues and Industry Influence - Members and AACAP: What Should We Do?

This members-only forum is being held to discuss society’s expanding concerns about ethical issues that affect our relationships with our patients and how we as a professional organization and medical professionals should respond to the public’s concerns. The forum consists of two parts: three short presentations by Dr. Anders who discusses the increasing focus on ethics felt by AACAP, its members, and all of medicine; followed by Dr. Hendren who discusses his thoughts on how AACAP can become better able to respond to criticisms and questions about ethics; and lastly, a presentation by Dr. Schowalter who, as chair of the new AACAP Task Force on Policy and Procedures, reviews its deliberations. The three presentations are brief so that the majority of the time can be devoted to the second part: audience participation. The panelists and audience discuss selected responses from a member e-mail request for comments about the topic.
