The speakers discuss the safety of four major medication classes that are being used extensively in children and adolescents. Discussion includes the metabolic and endocrine adverse effects of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, suicide risk associated with antidepressants, and cardiac risks associated with psychostimulants. In addition to a review of the evidence base for these adverse effects in the pediatric population, appropriate clinical monitoring and management strategies are highlighted.
