CCB #6: Master Clinician Michael S. Jellinek, M.D.

Dr. Jellinek is Chief, Child Psychiatry Service, at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and President of Newton Wellesley Hospital. His primary research interest has been psychosocial issues in primary care pediatrics and his goal has been to develop a questionnaire, the Pediatric Symptom Checklist, used to screen 4 to 16 year old children during their annual pediatric visit. Clinically his focus has included over 15 years of consulting to the MGH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, dealing with complex and difficult cases crossing multiple systems, school consultation, and divorce mediation. As a teacher he has led the core seminar “Primary Supervision” that focuses on building the identity of a child psychiatrist for first year (PGY 4 or 5) residents as well as considerable career mentoring. Some of his skills are administrative both as a service chief and as a hospital administrator responsible for a $300M community hospital. Within AACAP, he has served as Treasurer and Chair of Financial Planning. He also served in a group that built a relationship with the American Academy of Pediatrics and Co-Chaired the Work Force development effort, as well as serving as the Associate Editor of the Journal.
