Washington, D.C., October 11, 2010 - The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce Daniel Pine, M.D., NIMH Chief, Section on Development and Affective Neuroscience, as the recipient of AACAP's 2010 Irving Philips Award for Prevention.
"Over the past 20 years, I feel unusually lucky to have spent a good part of my days, no small part of my nights, and most of my early mornings thinking about how to begin to solve pressing problems that confront society. Specifically, I have been supported to work deeply and passionately to better understand, treat, and, eventually prevent, the problems posed by pediatric mental illness," Dr. Pine said in a written statement.
AACAP's Irving Philips Award for Prevention was established in 1993 in honor of Irving Philips, M.D. Dr. Philips served as AACAP President from 1985-1987 and was renowned for his work in the field of prevention.
Dr. Pine presents, "Anxiety and Neuroscience: Relevance for Prevention," at AACAP's 57th Annual Meeting, October 29, 2010 in New York, NY.
For more information on this award, please contact Anna Eisenberg, Communications Coordinator, at 202.966.7300, ext. 154 or aeisenberg@aacap.org.
