Washington, D.C., October 22, 2009
—The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce Yuhuan Xie, M.D., as the recipient of AACAP’s Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders Supported by the Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund. AACAP’s Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders encourages junior faculty and child and adolescent psychiatry residents to pursue research careers by supporting pilot research.

“I learned a great deal about the parents’ caring, love and hope for their children as well as their difficulties and frustrations dealing with the challenges children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) present. The experience taught me that families with children with ADHD need comprehensive services just like families with other developmental disorders such as pervasive developmental disorder need,” Dr. Xie wrote in a written statement.

Dr. Xie evaluated the effectiveness of group parent videoconference trainings on ADHD treatment. Nineteen subjects finished the twelve week parent training—eight completed the videoconference sessions and eleven completed the face-to-face sessions. She compared results from the traditional face-to-face parent trainings to the videoconference trainings, and found that parent training through videoconferencing was well accepted and was as effective as face-to-face training.

Dr. Xie presents her research during the New Research Poster Session 6 on Saturday, October 31 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at AACAP’s Annual Meeting at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, Hawaii.
