Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009
- The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce the Program Committee, as the recipient of the Catchers in the Rye Award to an AACAP Component. The committee received the award for its outstanding efforts on behalf of children and adolescents and AACAP itself.

“The Program Committee has been at the forefront of medical associations in managing conflicts of interest and maintaining a scientific meeting that is free of commercial bias,” stated Neal D. Ryan, M.D., Chair of the committee. “It is a great pleasure to contribute to AACAP which provides a professional home for us all,” Program Committee Deputy Chair Bennett L. Leventhal, M.D., wrote in a written statement.

The task of the Program Committee is to wisely and fairly select programs that serve a wide range of AACAP members. In addition to the Annual Meeting, the committee is responsible for the Psychopharmacology Update Institute, Lifelong Learning Institute and Annual Review Course. Other recent work of staff and committee members resulted in a successful electronic system for program submissions and review, online Proceedings Abstracts and electronic personalized scheduling.

“I thank the Program Committee for their dedication to selecting thoughtful programs,” said AACAP President, Robert L. Hendren, D.O. “The consistent attendance and success of all AACAP meetings is due, in large part, to the committee’s vision and creativity.”
