Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009 —The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce Marianne Wamboldt, M.D., Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Denver and Chair of Psychiatry at the Denver Children’s Hospital, as the recipient of the 2009 Simon Wile Leadership in Consultation Award.
In her research, Dr. Wamboldt reviewed and synthesized literature on prevention strategies for childhood mental illnesses. She concluded that primary care systems need to implement a blueprint for assessing and identifying mental health risk factors. She suggested that child psychiatry will benefit the most children by developing evidence-based prevention interventions for children with genetic or environmental risk factors for psychiatric problems.
The award acknowledges outstanding leadership and continual contributions in the field of liaison child and adolescent psychiatry. It is supported by the child psychiatry service at Massachusetts General Hospital and administered by AACAP’s Committee on Liaison with Medical Professionals.
Dr. Wamboldt presents her paper, “The Future Role of Child Psychiatry in Primary Care: How Do We Get There?,” during the Simon Wile Symposium on Saturday, October 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. at AACAP’s Annual Meeting at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, Hawaii.
For more information on this award please contact Amanda Greenberg, Communications Coordinator, at 202.966.7300 ext. 154 or agreenberg@aacap.org.
