Washington, D.C., October 22, 2009
—The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce Lenore C. Terr, M.D., as the recipient of AACAP’s 2009 Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Award for her talk on psychotherapy with children who have been traumatized. The written form of the talk will be published in the 2009 (Vol. 64) edition of Psychoanalytic Study of the Child.

In a written statement, Dr. Terr wrote, “Receiving AACAP’s Norbert and Charlotte Reiger Award in Psychotherapy has been both a great honor and a pleasant surprise for me.” Dr. Terr’s research and focus throughout her career has been psychic trauma, and she has worked to move creatively into new realms of talking cures beyond Freud.

This award is offered annually for the best published or unpublished paper written by an AACAP member that addresses the use of psychodynamic psychotherapy in clinical practice and fosters the development, teaching, and practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy within child and adolescent psychiatry. Award recipients are selected by AACAP’s Psychotherapy Committee.

The Rieger Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Award was established in 2000 to promote the publication of papers on psychotherapy, case reports and therapy techniques. It is supported by the Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Foundation.

Dr. Terr presents, “Using Context to Treat Traumatized Children” at AACAP’s 57th Annual Meeting, October 26-31, 2010 in New York, NY.
