Washington, D.C., September 24, 2008 – The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), is pleased to announce that Sabine J. Roza, M.D., is the recipient of the AACAP Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Award for Scientific Achievement, for her paper, “Intrauterine Growth and Infant Temperamental Difficulties: The Generation R Study,” which was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (JAACAP).

“It is a great honor to receive this award from AACAP,” said Dr. Roza. “This paper represents one of the first results from a large ongoing project in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Most importantly, we thank the children and their parents who participated and continue to participate in the Generation R Study.”

The objective of Dr. Roza’s study was to determine whether intrauterine growth trajectories are associated with temperamental difficulties in infancy. The study found little indication for an association between intrauterine growth trajectories and temperamental difficulties in infants.

Dr. Roza was selected by AACAP President Robert Hendren, D.O., by JAACAP Editor Andres Martin, M.D., and last year’s award recipient, Hector Bird, M.D. In a joint statement to be published in the December issue of the JAACAP, Drs. Hendren, Martin, and Bird said, “Dr. Roza and her colleagues in the Generation R Study Group are to be commended for bringing state-of-the-art measures to this large-scale, population-based study of developmental trajectories from fetal life onward.”

Dr. Roza practices in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The AACAP Rieger Award for Scientific Achievement is supported by the Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Foundation.

Dr. Roza will present, “Intrauterine Growth and Infant Temperamental Difficulties: The Generation R Study,” at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers on Friday, October 31 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

For more information on the award, or to obtain a photograph of Dr. Roza, please contact Adam Lowe, AACAP Communications Coordinator, at 202.966.7300 x 154 or alowe@aacap.org.
