Research Institute: Epigenetics in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Child and adolescent psychiatry research requires the use of diverse techniques, from epidemiology to molecular genetics to neuroimaging to clinical trials. In the past few years, advances in sequencing technologies have made epigenetic research more approachable. Epigenetic factors are defined as all that resides "above genetics." These factors clearly make a major contribution to child and adolescent developmental outcomes. This Institute, which is designed for researchers, provides an overview of epigenetic mechanisms and a discussion of the integration of epigenetics into child and adolescent psychiatry research. Attendees gain understanding of the basic epigenetic mechanisms that connect environmental experience with outcomes and learn how physician-scientists and clinical researchers have integrated epigenetic approaches into their research.
