Practical Pediatric Psychopharmacology
Recent, large clinical trials in all categories of psychotropic medication provide a growing evidence base for the safe and/or effective use of psychotropic medications in the treatment of children and adolescents with mental illnesses. This Institute provides practical information to primary care clinicians on the use of psychotropic medications; introducing them to the basics that enable them to responsibly prescribe these medications for common pediatric mental health disorders, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and aggression in autism spectrum disorder. Awareness of recent research and application of practical clinical information pertaining to pediatric psychopharmacology are combined to help primary care physicians identify key psychiatric disorders as they present in the office, as well as increase their comfort level in treating common childhood psychiatric disorders with pharmacotherapy.
