Children's Welcome Event at the New York Hilton Midtown

Are you looking for fun things to do with other families at AACAP's 63rd Annual Meeting? The following activities have been organized by the Local Arrangements Committee for you to enjoy with fellow AACAP families. If you are interested, please meet at the Hospitality Desk located in the Registration area at the New York Hilton Midtown at the designated time. You will be responsible for your own transportation and admission fees, however directions to each location will be provided on the day of the event. Your children may also participate in the Welcome Reception, evening Media Theatre programs, and the Exhibit Hall with adult supervision.

    • Bug Out! Drop by to meet some friendly insects, or other little critters from the Museum's living collection.

    • Totally Tots Open Art Studio: Children lead the way in this sensory paradise of materials. With a featured project and material each week, children build and refine their fine motor skills; learn about colors, practice their letters and numbers, and learn how to share with others. Kids can explore artifacts and specimen from the museum’s collection and everyday objects in two and three dimensional form. There is no such thing as a bad mess in this space, which is tailored to children five and younger.

    • Touch Tank: Drop by with gentle fingers to meet real, live sea creatures, like starfish and sea urchins.

    • Brooklyn Block Lab & Studio: Explore the theme of neighbors and neighborhoods through changing art workshops. Get physical with large scale block play, and hone building and design skills with table top sized Kapla Planks and Magnatiles.

    • Sensory Room Family Hours: The Sensory Room is an inclusive space where children of all abilities can engage with their peers and explore their senses. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

    • We've designed every aspect of PlayWorks™ to help families prepare children to enter school ready to learn and grow. By combining play and learning, PlayWorks™ creates a fun and rewarding experience for children.As children explore PlayWorks™ and participate in daily Art Lab programs, they build their physical, social, math, art, science, literacy and problem-solving abilities—as well as the self-confidence, independence and awareness necessary for them to become life-long learners.
    • For adults, PlayWorks™ provides an opportunity to observe each child's unique learning style and appreciate how play creates a strong foundation for later learning.     • Drop in to try your skills at one of the oldest forms of embroidery in the world. Beginning cross-stitchers will learn the basic stitch and create a bookmark with their new skill. More seasoned stitchers can continue working on their bookmark or branch into more complicated designs - make a handcrafted gift for someone! Younger kids may also enjoy coming along and contributing to our community weaving using recycled fabrics and ribbons.

Staten Island Children's Museum

  • Public transportation: To get to the Children's Museum, take the Staten Island Ferry, then hop on the S40 bus at the St. George Ferry Terminal to the Snug Harbor Road stop. (5-10 minutes)
